- JChat v2.1 - Full Screen ANSI Chat Door for any Drop File supportive BBS
-
- Foreward:
- The idea of writing this door arose when another local sysop suggested
- for me to write a simple one for his use. We all know that a lot, if not
- most, BBS packages usually come with boring or sloppily-put-together chat
- modes. This door will eliminate all of that for you! :) JChat is a very
- attractive and tightly written program with lots of options for the sysop
- to toy around with! I do hope you find it of great use!!
-
- Disclaimer:
- Yeah, I know you have probably already read this boring stuff for
- almost every shareware program you've tried, but please bear with me...
-
- Use this program at your own risk. I can only guarantee that it will take
- up space on your hard drive, and nothing more. It has been tested on
- several systems around here with no harmful effects. If you do find a
- problem with the program on your system, please let me know about it
- so I can attempt to fix it. I am also open to any constructive
- suggestions you may have to make the program better in ANY way. But
- please be reminded that I will not be held liable for any damages it's
- use may cause.
-
- I am distributing this program as ShareWare, meaning you may use it in any
- environment for up to 30 days in it's included form. After the 30 day
- trial time is up, you must either cease from using it, or register it for
- only $5.00.
-
- Other than that, all I ask is that the archive is kept in it's original
- form for distribution and is not modified in any way. The contents may be
- placed in a different archive format so long as the filename is kept as
- JCHAT21.??? (ie. ZIP, ARJ, ARC, LZH, ect.).
-
- Registration:
- How much does JChat cost? For the sake of keeping sysops like me
- with a little spare change, the cost is only $5 US! I'm not out to rob
- all my fellow sysops of their precious money used to keep their board up.
- I know what a hassle it is to have something unregistered that I love, but
- just can't seem to find the extra money to send in. What will registering
- do for you? First of all, you will be able to run the program forever
- with a good peace of mind that you have paid for it and have made the
- author extrememly happy! Also, you will be able to get lifetime upgrades
- of JChat absolutely FREE! The price could go up for new registerees, but
- you will be able to use your current key for all future upgrades. How's
- that for a deal? <g>
-
- General Setup:
- JChat should normally be run from a batch file, called from your BBS
- software (usually referred to as a Type 7 exit). The batch file should
- copy your dropfile(s) to the JChat directory (or use the config option),
- change to the JChat directory, run JChat.Exe, delete the dropfile(s),
- return to your BBS directory, then EXIT back to your BBS software.
-
- JChat Use:
- JChat's normal use is without any perimeters specified on the command
- line. Although you may wish to change it's operation slightly with a
- command line "switch". Two switches are currently supported and are
- thoroughly explained below.
-
- /X -X Run JChat's FullScreenChat function without going through the
- paging routines. Like invoking a normal chat mode from the sysop
- side.
-
- /B -B Run JChat normally, but with "Beeps" for the paging instead of
- the normal page calls.
-
- /2 -2 Wierd paging... try it, you'll see! <g>
-
- /3 -3 Another wierd paging option...
-
-
- File in original archive:
-
- JCHAT.DOC This file
- JCHAT.EXE JChat's executable program
- JCHAT.CFG JChat's configuration file
- JCHAT.BAT Example of a normal batch file to call JChat
- DORINFO1.DEF Example DORINFO1.DEF drop file
- PAGED.ANS ANSI file to be displayed if there is no answer to page
- PAGED.ASC ASCII file to be displayed if there is no answer to page
- BADTIME.ANS ANSI file to be displayed if trying to page outside of times
- BADTIME.ASC ASCII file to be displayed if trying to page outside of times
- REGISTER.TXT JChat Registration Form
- WHATSNEW.TXT What's new for JChat v2.1!
-
- JChat supports a wide variety of dropfiles including:
- DORINFOx.DEF
- EXITINFO.BBS
- DOOR.SYS
- SFDOORS.DAT
- CALLINFO.BBS
- CHAIN.TXT
-
- I myself use the DORINFOx.DEF dropfile, and have found it extremely useful to
- have the EXITINFO.BBS file in the JChat directory too. DORINFOx.DEF doesn't
- provide very much information on the caller at all, but EXITINFO.BBS makes up
- for all of that.
-
- The files to be displayed can also be RIP files as well as ANSI, ASCII, and
- AVATAR. (with the extentions ANS, ASC, AVT, RIP)
-
- SysOp paging hours are fully configurable from the configuration file. JChat
- can get a lot of useful information from the file that may not be available
- through the dropfile you're using. The config file has extremely detailed
- instructions for each option in JChat. This file is EXTREMELY important for
- the correct operation of JChat. Be sure to edit this to suit your system.
-
- When being paged, the sysop may press either C, A, or S in accordance to what
- they would like to do. Pressing C will invoke a chat mode between the sysop
- and user. Pressing A will "Abort" the page, and will turn off the sysop's
- paging (shuts up the speaker), but will continue to place "."s on the screen
- so the user still thinks the sysop is still being paged. Pressing S will
- totally stop the paging and display the PAGED.* screen to the user immediately.
-
- The key combinations of CTRL-R and CTRL-W can be used at any time during the
- chat by either person. CTRL-R redisplays (refreshes) the chat screen and
- clears both user's windows. CTRL-W will clear just that person's window.
-
- The caller's time limit will not lessen while he/she is in chat. The caller's
- time limit will be the same when they exit chat as when they entered.
-
- The little clock at the bottom of the screen is pretty cool. I hope it's
- presence helps you have a better day. :)
-
- If you have any problems or suggestions regarding JChat, I can be reached at
- the following connections. If you like this door and enjoy using it, please
- send in your $5.00 registration with the included REGISTER.TXT. If you do
- not receive your key within 7-10 days, there must have been a problem in
- getting it to you by your preferred method. In that case, you will need to
- call my support BBS to pick up your key.
- Thank you for your support!!
